It goes without saying that maintenance is a vital part of owning a vaping device. Regular checks and changes are essential if you want a long-lasting kit, which always performs optimally. Our previous blog post covers a basic understanding of how to clean your device with either a simple rinse or deep clean. Another crucial chore of device upkeep is changing your coils. The coil consists of a wire (or mesh) and some wick material and is responsible for heating up the e-liquid to produce dense and flavoursome clouds.
But when is it time to change? This is all dependant on the device, coil resistance, heat levels, e-liquid, and frequency of use. It’s impossible to cover all of these without knowing the specifics of each individual vaping advocate. However, there are several signs which indicate that it’s time to replace your coils.
1. Burnt Taste
The first and most prominent way to tell your coil needs changing is by experiencing an unpleasant burning taste in your vape.
2. Bubbling Noise
In this case, your device is literally telling you to change the coil. If you hear a hollow bubbling sound when using your device, this is an indicator that your coil needs a swift replacement. The same will happen with meshed coils and pods.
3. Weak Flavour
A diminished taste is a clear sign of a worn-out coil. You’ve spent precious time finding that favourite flavour and you know exactly how it should taste. So, if your hit is not consistent with a full flavour, consider replacing your col.
4. Little Vapour
Cloud production is a visual indication that your coil will need changing. If you’ve started to notice your clouds reducing, the coils expiry date has been reached. However, do ensure that your device is not low on battery before coming to this conclusion as this can also impact vapour.
5. Leaking Device
A worn-out coil may result in a leaking device. Of course, leaks are susceptible to a number of factors but it’s important to examine the coil and replace if you find this to be the reason for the leak.
