E-liquid FAQs

E-liquid, vape liquid or vape juice?

The terms e-liquid, vape liquid, and vape juice all refer to the liquid used in vape devices. These liquids usually contain nicotine, flavourings, and a base mix of Vegetable Glycerin (VG) and Propylene Glycol (PG). VG provides thicker vapour, while PG carries the flavour and offers a smoother throat hit. Together, they create a satisfying vaping experience.

What is Freebase e-liquid?

Freebase e-liquids contain pure nicotine, making them popular for those who prefer a stronger throat hit and faster nicotine absorption. This type of e-liquid delivers a more intense vaping experience, making it ideal for users who seek a sensation closer to smoking traditional cigarettes. Freebase e-liquids are available in nicotine strengths ranging from 3mg up to 18mg, making them perfect for reducing nicotine dependency.

What are nic salts?

Nic salts or nicotine salts are relatively new to e-liquids. They first appeared in 2015, a more natural form of nicotine extracted from the tobacco leaf and is more easily absorbed by the body and has a smoother throat hit, similar to tobacco products. This makes nic salt e-liquid a popular choice for new vapers who are making the switch. When compared to standard or freebase nicotine e-liquids with a range from 3Mg to 18Mg of nicotine, Nicotine salt-based liquids come in a choice of 10Mg or 20Mg. Nicotine-based vape liquids are only available in 10ml bottles.

What E-liquid is best for me?

E-liquids are available in a range of nicotine strengths, flavours and mix ratios, VG and PG, allowing new and existing vapers to choose something that suits their vaping requirements, resulting in a more satisfying type of vaping experience. Vape liquids are available as standard 10ml liquids with nicotine or in larger bottles like 50ml shortfills which require separate nicotine shots to add nicotine. Finding a favourite flavour is a great first step in any vaping journey, whether it's a standard 10ml or a nicotine salt vape liquid, make sure the flavour intensity is just right for you and you won't get tired of it right away!

Which nicotine-strength e-liquid is best?

If you're a new vaper, the amount of nicotine is essential, too little and it won't quell the craving, too high and it may make you feel nauseous. If you are using vaping as a way to quit smoking, then a suitable nicotine strength would be between 6Mg and 18Mg, depending on how often you smoke. If you have been vaping for a while and wish to reduce your nicotine dependency, one advantage of e-liquids is that you can slowly reduce the amount of nicotine in stages, from 18Mg down to 3Mg. High-strength liquids are best suited to vape pens, pod kits and other starter vape kits. Lower strengths are best suited to ohm kits as opposed to vape starter kits and pen kits because the hit will be too overpowering.

Standard nicotine guide

  • 3mg (Very Low) - Up to 5 cigarettes a day
  • 6mg (Low) - Up to 10 cigarettes a day
  • 12mg (Medium) - Up to 20 cigarettes a day
  • 18mg (High) - Up to 30 cigarettes a day

Nicotine salt guide

  • 10Mg (Medium) - Less than 20 cigarettes a day
  • 20Mg (High) - 20 or more cigarettes a day!
What is VG & PG?

Two of the main ingredients in all e-liquids, Vegetable Glycerin VG, and Propylene Glycol PG, are base liquids used to deliver nicotine. Chosen because they are safe to use, and more importantly, can produce a vapour that is safe to inhale. Both PG and VG are certified for use in the food industry and the production of medicines. The ratio these two liquids are blended is shown as 50/50 or 50VG/50PG, which means the e-liquid has an equal ratio of VG and PG. Most are available in a 50/50 e-liquid ratio, making them suitable for use in many popular vape devices, providing a good balance of taste and vapour production when MTL or Mouth To Lung vaping, similar to a cigarette.

What is a high VG e-liquid?

A higher ratio of VG, like a 70/30 ratio, means that the e-liquid is thicker and more suited to DL, or direct-to-lung vaping styles and vape kits using sub-ohm coils and higher temperature ranges, capable of producing large clouds. Higher VG liquids are often sweeter.

Why does my e-liquid lose its flavour?

How you store your e-liquid plays a big part in the loss of flavour and will affect the nicotine. Direct sunlight and heat can break down the components in your liquid, making it less effective. It is recommended that if you intend to keep your liquid for any length of time, you should keep your liquids in a cool dark place, like in a cupboard, away from any source of heat. We suggest that you always store your e-liquids in a safe place, away from children and pets.

How long does e-liquid last?

It's important to remember that the additives in e-liquid, like the VG and PG liquids, have a shelf life and break down over time. All Vampire Vape e-liquids have an expiry date on them, usually about two years from the date of manufacture. If your e-liquid is stored correctly, you can ensure that your e-liquid will last.

Can I recycle e-liquid bottles?

Most e-liquid bottles will be made from plastic, usually LDPE, HDPE, or PET. All these plastics are recyclable, especially PET which is widely recycled but you may need to check with your local authority to check if they’re recycling the others. At Vampire Vape, we make our e-liquid bottles out of PET plastic which can be easily recycled. This is the most widely recycled plastic and is often used for single-use clear plastic bottles. PET can be recycled into polyester fabrics and for carpets and cushion fillings. Our bottle nibs are made of HDPE which is also easy to recycle. You might have to check with your local authority to ensure it is recycled in your area. Plastics like HSPE are recycled into new pens and detergent bottles. Our caps are made of PP plastic which can also be recycled, you might need to check with your local authority to make sure they have the capabilities to recycle PP products. PP plastic can be recycled into brooms, brushes, garden rakes and plastic trays. When recycling your e-liquid bottles, make sure it is clear of any e-liquid or nicotine residue.
