There’s a lot of speculation out there about the dangers of incorrectly charging your vape device, and how it can be potentially dangerous. Like anything with a battery, vape devices and vape kits have batteries inside them that vaporize the e-liquid present inside the chamber. Taking care of your external vape batteries is an essential step in the vaping process.

How to Take Care of Your E-cigarette Batteries
But let’s get back to it; how can I you safely charge your vape kit? Charging your vape batteries is a fairly straightforward process that you can master seamlessly, but you should always consider the problems that can arise.
Avoiding Fake Devices and Charging Them
The biggest problem most people run into when vaping is buying a fake device, and then charging it. The fake manufacturing industry has absolutely no health and safety standards, so these criminals will often fill their devices with illegal liquid and faulty batteries that are ill-suited to the requirements of the vape device. These batteries can come from other electronic goods and will likely not have the ample amperage needed. This faulty equilibrium means that when you charge your fake device (for even a little while) it can heat up drastically and, in some instances, have been known to catch fire!Â
Please dispose of your device if you feel it is fake. If you know or even suspect your device is fraudulent, you are well within your rights to report where and when you purchased the fake device to authorities. This includes disposable vapes, ohm kits, vape mods with removable batteries, vape pens, pod kits and pre-filled starter kits.
Don’t Charge Overnight & Don’t Leave Your Kit Unattended
If your device is genuine, you should never let your device charge overnight. As tempting as this may be for the sake of convenience, it can drain the full capacity of the battery life over time and slowly shorten the amp hours your device can retain. This is the worst sort of malpractice to fall into, so it’s best to never do this, especially when the device is new.Â
This can also be problematic for your device because the battery may have leaked, or the cable may be faulty. For this reason, we recommend that you never leave your device unattended for extended periods of time, so if any sort of problems do arise, you can be right there to solve them, whatever they may be. Batteries of any kind are toxic - not just large lead acid batteries. As such, you should always watch the battery level and contemplate if the battery voltage is safe.
Don’t Use Your Vape When it's Charging
Another great piece of advice to follow is to not vape your device when it’s actually charging. It’s always tempting to use your device when it’s plugged in, but we always advise against this because it will cause the battery to get extremely hot and volatile, which will drain the max capacity of the battery over time.Â
Using a Charger that's Right for Your Device
It's impossible to pinpoint exactly what best suits your device because much of the time they are different, but the general rule is that lower is better. Use the charger that came with the device. If you didn't get one, the voltage should be written on the box, so use that as a guide. If you can't seem to find any information on your physical device, connect to wi-fi and research what you need to charge safely.
A general rule when considering the output of the charger is that it's best to go low and slow. What this may mean is that your battery will take longer to charge. On balance, this can be considered an asset because you won't have the opportunity to continuously charge a device with a full battery charge. If you have an Android device, the charger you use to charge your phone will certainly work, but again it's best to consider the amount of energy you're using to reach a full charge of your e cigarette battery.
Take Your Pod, or Remove Your Tank When Charging
It’s also a great idea to take your pod out, or remove your tank from your mod while vaping. This will ensure that the device is not left on its side and the liquid will always be evenly distributed across the wicking material of the coil.Â
