What are flavour concentrates?

Vampire Vape is a leading UK manufacturer of e-liquid flavour concentrates with over 99 flavour profiles available. They’re typically 10ml or 30ml bottles of concentrated flavours that contain no nicotine or VG (Vegetable Glycerin) and PG (Propylene Glycol). These concentrates are highly potent liquids and must be diluted with a base liquid such as PG and VG and a Nic Shot to add your required nicotine strength. A 30ml bottle of flavour concentrate can make 200ml to 250ml of e-liquid, using a mixing ratio of 15% to 20%. They give vaping enthusiasts the option to fully customise their e-liquid flavours, creating unique and exciting blends.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get started:

What You Need:

1. E-liquid Flavour Concentrates:

Choose your desired flavours from our extensive range of Vampire Vape award-winning flavour concentrates. These are concentrated and should be used sparingly. E.g. between 15% and 20% of total volume.

2. Base Liquid:

A combination of Propylene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable Glycerin (VG). The ratio depends on your preference for throat hit (PG) vs. vapour production (VG).

3. Nicotine (Optional):

If you want nicotine in your e-liquid, you'll need nicotine shots or base.

4. Measuring Tools:

Syringes, pipettes, or droppers for accurate measurements.

5. Empty Bottles:

To mix and store your e-liquid.

6. Protective Gear:

Gloves and eye protection to handle nicotine safely.

7. Labels:

To note down the mix details and date.

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Choose Your Recipe:

Decide on the flavour profile you want. Start with simple combinations before moving to complex mixes. Online forums and recipe sites can be great resources.

2. Calculate Your Ratios:

Use our e-liquid calculator to determine the exact amounts of each ingredient. Enter the PG/VG ratio, nicotine level, and flavour concentrate percentage for the best results.

3. Prepare Your Work Area:

Work in a clean, well-ventilated space. Lay out all your ingredients and tools.

4. Mixing the Ingredients:

Nicotine: Measure and add the nicotine base to your bottle first if you're using it. This ensures it’s properly diluted.

PG and VG: Add the calculated amounts of Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerin. Typically, the PG also carries the flavour, so if you have a 70/30 VG/PG mix, adjust your flavour concentrate accordingly.

Flavour Concentrates: Add the flavour concentrates according to your recipe. Start with lower percentages, around 5-15%, and adjust to taste in future batches.

5. Shake and Steep:

Shake: Cap the bottle tightly and shake it vigorously for several minutes to ensure all ingredients are well-mixed.

Steep: Allow the mixture to steep. This is the ageing process where flavours blend and mature. Some flavours require a few days, while complex mixes might need weeks. Store in a cool, dark place and shake periodically.

6. Test and Adjust:

After the steeping period, test your e-liquid. If it’s not quite right, adjust the flavours or let it steep longer. Make detailed notes for future reference.

Tips for Success:

Start Small: Mix small batches to avoid waste if the flavour isn’t to your liking.

Hygiene: Maintain cleanliness to prevent contamination.

Experiment: Don’t be afraid to tweak your recipes. Vaping is about personal preference.

Safety Considerations:

Nicotine Handling: Nicotine is toxic in high concentrations. Always use gloves and eye protection when handling it.

Storage: Keep all ingredients, especially nicotine, out of reach of children and pets.

Labelling: Clearly label your bottles with the date and recipe details.

By following these steps, you’ll be able to craft your own unique vape juices, perfectly tailored to your taste. Happy mixing!

E Liquid Flavour Concentrates: The most common questions

What are your bestselling flavour concentrates?

Two of our best-selling flavours come as no surprise, they’re our Heisenberg and Pinkman, closely followed by Blood Sukka, Ice Menthol, Attraction, Blackcurrant and Catapult. Most of our bestsellers have a fruit and berry flavour profile, but be sure to check out our other flavours profiles which may suit a particular flavour you’re looking to develop.

How much e-liquid can I make with one bottle of concentrate?

With an approximate dilution ratio of 20% or 5 to 1, a 30ml bottle of flavour concentrate would produce about 150 ml of e-liquid.

Can flavour concentrate be added to existing e-liquids?

The simple answer is yes. You can add additional flavour concentrate to already blended, or shop-bought e-liquid. The issue is measuring the exact quantity needed to get the desired taste. Also, adding additional liquid, depending on the amount, would dilute your nicotine strength. This is not a problem if you vape zero-nicotine liquids.

Can I mix different flavours?

Yes, our flavour concentrates are designed to be mixed. You just need to ensure that you stick to the 5 to 1 rule for the total amount of concentrate. I.e. 10% of flavour 1 and 10% of flavour 2 would give you a desired 20% dilution ratio.
Keep in mind that different flavours may require different steep times for best results.

What VG/PG ratio are your concentrates?

All our concentrates are pure flavour concentrate, so do not affect your VG/PG ratio when mixing.

Are DIY e-liquids more cost-effective than buying a ready-made vape liquid?

In short, yes DIY liquids can be more cost effective. This is because you can buy ingredients in bulk and mix larger batches at a lower price when compared to pre-made liquids. However, the initial setup costs can be more expensive in the short term, becoming cheaper the longer you continue with them. But it’s not really about the savings and more about getting exactly what you want. Mixing liquids is suited to vaping enthusiasts who have an idea of a particular flavour and strength they’re searching for; these flavours are not always available off the shelf, usually because there isn’t a widespread demand for them.

How can I adjust the flavour when it’s overpowered or weak?

If your flavour is too strong, we suggest allowing the e-liquid too steep for longer. The time for steeping depends on the flavour, however, a rough rule of thumb is 5-10 days, some of our fruity flavour concentrates are useable after a good shake, which gives the e-liquid time to blend and develop naturally. Otherwise, try diluting the mix with either more VG or PG, for example, reduce the flavour by 1-2%. This will soften the flavour.
For weaker flavours, try increasing the concentrate by 1-2% or add a complementary flavour to enhance the taste such as a sweeter flavour. VG-heavy flavours tend to give a smoother liquid which is less intense whereas PG-heavy recipes deliver a stronger flavour.

How do I adjust the flavour if it’s too harsh or too sweet?

If your flavour is too harsh, try reducing the concentrate by 1-2%, as too much flavouring can be too harsh and overpowering. You could also add more VG to smooth out the harshness.
If the flavour is too sweet, dilute it with more PG or reduce any sweetener that you’ve added. We also recommend allowing your mixes to steep for longer allowing the flavour to blend fully, this may smooth out the flavour.
Please remember to make any adjustments to your mixes slowly, testing after change until you find the perfect balance.

How do I adjust the flavour if it has an unpleasant aftertaste?

If your e-liquid mix has an unpleasant aftertaste, try diluting it with a base liquid like VG or PG, or you could also try adding some flavouring that compliments the taste and masks any aftertaste. We also recommend ensuring your bottles, syringes, and mixing jugs are clean and don’t contain any residue from previous mixing, this will ensure you get a true reflection of the current mix.
